Grilled Pork Loin Recipe
A grilled pork loin recipe that takes nothing more than a few spices, some salt, a pork loin and a grill. I used a gas grill but charcoal will work just as well.
Grilled Pork Loin Recipe Ingredients
5 pound pork loin
Morton’s seasoning salt or something comparable
How to Grill a Pork Loin
Rinse the pork loin in cold water
Sprinkle cumin on pork loin until you have good coverage
Sprinkle onion powder onto pork loin
Sprinkle black pepper onto pork loin
Cover pork loin with seasoning salt and massage it into the pork except for the ends
Heat all the burners on the gas grill on high for five minutes. If using charcoal place briquets in two piles on opposite ends of grill and burn until they are grey.
Turn off middle burner (s) and place pork loin fat side up in center of grill long ways from front to back.
Grill for 5 minutes
Lower outside burners to medium
Turn pork loin over, fat side down and grill and 5 minutes.
Flip over once more and grill an additional 35 minutes.
Check temperature with a meat probe.
Pork Loin will be done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees in the center. 160 degrees used to be the magic number for pork but the U.S.D.A. finally realized what chefs have known for years – pork is dry when cooked to 160 degrees and perfectly safe at 145 degrees.
I recommend resting a five pound pork loin for 10 minutes before slicing but you can slice as early as three minutes.
Slice at an angle across the bias of the loin.
When I use the grilled pork loin recipe at home I serve it with whole grain brown rice. It’s easy to make while tending the grill. After simmering and before I fluff it, I add enough beef stock to moisten but not drench. I also salt and pepper to taste.
