Smoked Brisket and Lentil Soup

Smoked brisket and lentil soup is a recipe that came to me while I was looking at a couple of pounds of brisket left in my refrigerator.

Smoked Brisket and Lentil Soup Recipe Ingredients

2 pounds smoked brisket

1 pound dry lentils

1 15 ounce can green beans

8 ounces of medium hot salsa

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon cumin

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 teaspoon black pepper

Smoked Brisket and Lentil Soup Recipe Directions

Cut the smoked brisket into cubes. I like mine in large cubes but you may want yours smaller.

Place smoked brisket in large pot

Add 8 cups of hot water

Bring to a boil

Add 1 pound dry lentils and turn heat to simmer

Add green beans

Add salsa

Stir

Add all other ingredients

If you smoked the brisket with a meat rub do not add salt. If you did not use a meat rub add 1 teaspoon of salt. Sea salt is preferable but table salt is fine.

Stirring after each ingredient

Simmer smoked brisket and lentil soup for one hour.

Serve with crackers or bread and enjoy!
